Frequently Asked Questions

Services

Do you take custom orders?

While Rachelle loves to create custom jewelry, she does not have the capacity for custom orders at this time.

Do you offer repairs?

Yes! If there is something wrong with your piece at the time of delivery, which should not happen, Rachelle will repair it at no extra cost. If your DeForrest Fine piece’s chain gets ripped or shank gets split, for example, she will quote the repair on a case-by-case basis. DeForrest Fine does not offer repairs on other jeweler’s products.

For any repair requests, please get in touch with Rachelle at deforrestfine@gmail.com

Can I get my piece resized?

Of course. At the time of purchase for many of the pieces, you will be offered a complimentary resizing. If you receive the piece and need additional resizing, you’ll be charged $50 plus shipping. Please note that not all pieces are resizable.

Materials

Where are the diamonds from?

Our small diamonds are all GIA-certified and purchased through Stuller, Inc., which complies with the World Diamond Council System of Warranties and the Kimberley Process, ensuring rough diamonds are conflict-free.

Our larger diamonds are purchased through Misfit Diamonds or other reputable U.S. gemstone dealers and are either GIA-certified or old mine cut.

Where are the other gemstones from?

All of our gemstones are ethically sourced and traceable. We source our opals from Australian miners who cut them in-house. Our other gemstones are from U.S.-based dealers who ethically source the rough gem and cut it in-house or mine it locally (i.e., Montana sapphires).

What is unique about Australian opals?

Australian opals are superior in quality because they maintain their fire. Other opals are hydrophilic, which means they absorb water over time, causing them to lose their radiance. Australian opals, on the other hand, are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and retain their luster. With the proper care, Australian opals can be passed down for generations.

Do you work with silver or white gold?

At this time, Rachelle DeForrest works exclusively with yellow gold, however, if you would like a made to order piece in white gold please contact us for details at deforrestfine@gmail.com

Sustainability

What are your sustainability practices?

All DeForrest Fine gemstones are ethically sourced and traceable. Designer Rachelle DeForrest recycles her scrap gold when she can. She is also looking into getting Fairmined Certified and using recycled melee by the end of 2024. As a small business, each of these steps takes a considerable amount of time and resources, so please be patient with us and don’t hesitate to reach out with any additional questions about our practices.

How should I care for my fine jewelry at home?

With the proper at-home care, your pieces should last for generations. Please see our care instructions page for specific instructions.

Where is DeForrest Fine jewelry made?

Each piece is entirely handcrafted by Rachelle DeForrest in her Napa Valley, California studio. To learn more about her and her jewelry-making process, please see our about page.
